A Curtain or a Drape is a piece of cloth used to obscure or block light, or water in case of shower curtain. There main aim is to stop the light coming from outside and hence is also termed as “draperies.” Curtains can truly be called decorative utility products as they even serve purposes like change the look of a room, decoration and even provide privacy to the room. They give the room an expression, a mood.
As per the requirements, curtains can even be expensive. Often it is seen that the curtain which you want for your home is not available in the market easily. While searching for it, you may find a right pattern but not the style you want. In case you find the material you want, you can make your curtains at your home yourself.
In order to make your curtains, firstly you need to visit the craft store or any of the fabric shop and pick out the right material that you want for the curtains. In case you have any sheet which you like, you may use that as well. You only need to keep in mind that the sheet which you want to use is as long as the size of the window or the size you want the curtains to be. As it’s your choice for the curtains, so you need to be creative.
Traditionally silk and cotton was the most used fabrics for curtains and they are still the most likable ones. As per the choice, there are a lot of patterns available for curtains or you can even go in for your own. In case you don’t want to search for a pattern, you can make the easiest curtains known as the Rod Curtains. Just take the fabric and fold it down two inches. Then start sewing the fabric together, just leaving a fraction of space between the 2 pieces of the material.
Usually at the bottom and sides, hemming of the curtain is done around an eighth of an inch. The hemming can be varied as per the choice. These days a lot of accessories are also being used to decorate your curtains. You can use ribbons, buttons, lace or tassels for the decorations. You can even use appliqué patches of animals or letters for your child’s room. So it’s very important to be creative, after all it’s your curtains.
