Lots of famous designers today love working with vintage items especially vintage bathrooms. This is because a bathroom offers its own little territory for its owner to express him or herself. For example, a romantic type of person may enjoy the Victorian style, while a heavy rock-n-roller prefers a 50’s atmosphere.

Your hobby or big interest should help you get started when making a vintage bathroom. Most bathroom remodeling can be done inexpensively, as long as the project is thought out correctly.

If you’re going for the Victorian type of tone as mentioned above, some lacy curtains, richly scented oils and soaps, a sun catcher, and potpourri could start it off. You can find other materials you may need in various department stores. Most carry items such as dishes for soap and toothbrush holders at very affordable prices.

If you’d like to go even further, a pedestal sink that is easy to install won’t cost much either. The main idea with Victoriana is layering. For instance, add a smaller lace-edge towel on top of a larger, lush towel. Place doilies on countertops, etc.

Some companies are actually beginning to reproduce items that resemble products from the Art Deco period of the 1920s and 1930s. If you like this style, you should keep tiling in mind.

Most people don’t, or can’t afford to, redo the entire floor of the bathroom with brand new tile. By decorating your bathroom’s countertop with small tiles in a mosaic type of pattern, this can substitute the floor make over. Famous colors from this era include pale green, pink, and plain white for tiles. Paints are richer tones like turquoise or burgundy. This type of appearance also calls for a more geometric look. Storage spaces, along with a frosted glass, can do this make over wonders.

The idea behind a 1950s style is PLASTIC! Now when most of us think of plastic, we imagine that flimsy stuff. For the correct plastic look of the 1950s, you’ll need appliances made of stiff, sturdy plastic in the colors of deep green, robin egg blue, salmon, bright pink, and canary yellow. Diamond patterns were also popular and a vanity chair should complete the ambiance.

If you prefer flowers, the Beatles, polka dots, and colors, then a 1960s feel is for you. Anything made of cork will also serve your vintage 1960s bathroom well. Lots of the materials you’ll need to complete this look can be found at garage sales and flea markets.
