In computing terms, the more RAM that is on your computer, the more jobs it can process at once. One of the very best ways to increase the performance of your computer, make it faster, run easier and overall just behave better is to add ram to the system. It is fairly simple to view how much RAM your computer may have. To do this all you must do is go click on My Computer and then right click and select properties and system information. Once the RAM is installed, your Windows 95/98/ME/2000/NT/XP/Vista system will automatically detect the new memory and start using it. This is the part of your computer that will process the information, so that when a program, or software is loaded into your computer it is loaded into the ram to be run. Some kinds of RAM are DDR, DDR2, SDRAM, FPM, EDO, DRAM, SDRAM SODIMM, RAMBUS, DRAM, and VRAM.
On the inside of the computer there is normally one or more slots, black in color, which will hold the memory chips, which is also called RAM. Apple computers/Macs do this as well. A simple search online or on the chip itself will help you identify which kind of RAM your computer will accept. This is also where your files are put by a computer to be worked on. Consider it a work table for the PC. Then click the System icon and look at the info listed on the General tab. The amount of RAM in your system will be listed in megabytes). Ram stands for random access memory.

There are so many people who are convinced you have to take your computer to a computer store and have them install the RAM. I know that until about a year or so I thought so too. But thankfully I read that I could do it myself in a magazine.

i agree that ram is one of the most important things to make your computer run smother,
i used to work in a pc store and you’d be surprised at the different types of ram that dont run in computers, if you are in any way unsure the best thing to do is to take your existing ram stick in to the store with you and ask for more of that type, they will know the type you have and will be able to help =)
