Garage space can be converted into a variety of things, in this case, a guest room. Before you start remodeling your garage into a guest room, make sure the building codes in your area let you do so.

Some of the benefits of doing this include:

Obviously, more living space.

Your home should be less disrupted, due to the fact that you’ll be working in an enclosed area.

You will save tons of money because you won’t need to lay a new foundation. This excess money could go to decorating the interior of the guest room once it is completed.

Be sure to submit any building plans your city may require for approval. Some communities also have restrictions on covered car parkings. If this is true in your case, you may want to only convert a portion of your garage to a guest room.

Steps to Success:

Remove the large garage door. Don’t forget to disassemble cables and other wires that may have been used to automatically open and close the door.

Build a new wall to cover for the old garage door. Make sure your design flows; keep window shapes and other aspects of your home true to your new guest room.

Be sure to insulate the new wall. Typically, garages are not insulated, or are insulated poorly. Add the insulation before putting up the drywall.

Add your closet now if you want your room to have one.

Also add lighting fixtures and other electrical applications.

In order to make your guest room look like a part of the rest of the house, it might be in your best interest to change the door from the garage to the main house.

Paint the interior. Begin thinking about new furniture and other accessories you’ll be adding.

Due to the fact that many garages have concrete floors, you’ll want to add a carpet so your guests don’t complain of the cool temperature.

Tweek anything you may need to in order to make the guest room special and you are finished! Throw a party and invite some of your friends and relatives to spend the night!

When it comes to contemporary design in bedroom furniture, the style has a minimal, neutral look and features a mix of modern and traditional influences. If you’ve been searching for a relaxing getaway in your bedroom, a contemporary-designed sleeping space can offer you the peace and quiet you deserve.

The contemporary design has become increasingly popular in modern times, mainly due to its simplicity. With plenty of condos and apartments being constructed, the contemporary look is mainly followed because it’s simple to do and can appeal to a wide audience. Rooms, such as the bedroom, have a light, airy feel with lots of natural light.

Colours in a contemporary bedroom can vary. Generally, the contemporary design focuses on simple, earthy tones, like various beiges or soft browns. Bright shades like canary yellow or candy apple red aren’t necessarily found in contemporary bedrooms – they don’t promote relaxation.

The shape of contemporary bedroom furniture is normally curved or free form. It combines the streamlined look of modern furniture with the rounded, detailed traditional style. The most common furniture material is wood in a lighter finish, but dark finishes can be used as well. The wooden furniture is usually complimented with brushed nickel or chrome hardware.

Polished wooden floors are popular in contemporary bedrooms, instead of traditional carpet. To add some comfort to the floor, area rugs in a muted colour and/or pattern with a slightly curved shape is suited to the contemporary style. The wooden floors are usually in a lighter shade to promote a fresh and open feel.

Contemporary bedroom décor can either be used to subtly enhance your room, or become a focal point. It all depends on what pieces you go with. Bedside lamps with metal accents or an oval mirror over your dresser can be an understated addition, or you can step it up a notch and feature a hanging arc lamp directed over your bed. You can also invest in a chrome chandelier or an oversized wall mirror to add a little drama to your contemporary bedroom.

Get started on creating a contemporary bedroom for your home – whether you live in an apartment or not!

Interior Decorating: Asian Style

The peaceful and sincere designs of the Asian cultures have always enticed us for centuries. Maybe it’s the way Asian designs are so versatile, or perhaps it’s because nature is so closely involved with the furniture, murals, and other pieces.

Decorating Ideas | Asian Decor

You’ll find lots of helpful tips below if you want to create an Asian style room or room(s).

Incorporate Dramatic Colors

If you’re going for a more traditional style Chinese look, try using a bold red since it represents good luck. A nice, calm brown can also touch up the red. The Japanese enjoy utilizing natural grays and tan colors into their typically wooden furniture. A gold trim will also do most Asians designs well.

Texture

Asian décor is composed of lots of smooth, polished features. Bamboo can significantly help you accomplish your goal. Try using a bamboo rug here and there. Bamboo picture frames also help.

Nature

Japanese living spaces often have a bonsai plant in them. This gives a fresh feeling when one walks into the room. Again, bamboo also recreates the sparks of nature right in your interior.

Multi-Purpose Furniture

If you search around the internet for a few moments for some Asian style furniture ideas, you can often find a dresser with tea cups on top of it. Or maybe you glanced at a futon acting as a bed. This is a very notable feature of Asian interior decorations. Maybe you could place a dresser next to your door with a bonsai plant on top. Using the dresser as a shoe holder will make the room seem that much larger.

Rugs

If you’ve ever been in a traditional Asian home, you’ll notice that there is some sort of rug in every space. The Japanese use tatami mats frequently, while Chinese tend to use wool rugs. A tatami mat is easy to keep clean and provides a nice feel to your feet when walked upon.

Windows

While you want much of your interior Asian décor to be explosive with elements, you’re going to want your windows to be as simple as possible. This helps balance out the environment of the living quarters and helps to not overwhelm the person in them. Tassels can be hung through the rooms on the windows like the Chinese do.

Floor Screens

These are another major element of Asian décor. A Shoji screen, used by the Japanese, helps hide unattractive areas and can separate certain spaces.
Water

Just the sound of the crisp, flowing water is enough to calm anyone down. Incorporate miniature water falls into your spaces and get a fish tank with some beautiful, exotic fish in it. Don’t forget the smooth sea shells and sand dollars!

The main thing you need to keep in mind when creating an Asian style living space is simplicity. With simplicity comes serenity.

Interior Decorating: Retro Style

What is retro style decorating? Anything from the past influences the wide variety of colors, textures, and objects of Retro. However, when concentrating on a Retro style theme, you should think décor from the 50s, 60s, and 70s. If you go back too far, you may hit the vintage era.

As you probably know, the 50s, 60s, and 70s were a time of lots of bright, vibrant colors and tons of different, exotic textures. Try using blends of green, yellow, red, and blue to create fun themes.

Home Decorating: Retro style decorating makes your home look great

Every design must be bold and stand out, but not to the point at which it overwhelms the viewer. Go for “funky” looks that are strange but unique at the same time.

Furniture in a retro style room tries to appear as outstanding as possible. When it comes to sofas, look for elongated styles and make sure there are lots of colorful pillows.

Also, as a quick side note, don’t go for big design when decorating with retro themes as it may interfere with the effectiveness of the vibrant, bold colors. Instead of picture designs, focus on puzzle-piece looks and things of that nature.

The best colors to use are avocado green and mustard yellow. Combine these with some simple tie-dye fabric and presto you’re set! If you’re not a fan of tie-dye, try checkered patterns.

When it comes to textures, the more the merrier. Go for soft, rough, and fluffed designs. Anything is good.

Scoop stools, skate tables, fuzzy throw rugs, and lava lamps are all part of the wide assortment of décor you’re going to want your retro themed area to have. Foreign sculptures are also great.

Wood and checker tile flooring are also predominantly the best choices. Look for clean, swift looks for flooring as everything else will be bright and fantastically insane.

Just remember that with retro, anything goes! Multiple pieces always match and will help amplify your design to its fullest.

If you’re a college freshman living in your own dorm, you’ve probably noticed that it is quite a task to clean the place up by yourself. Small areas get messy very quickly and it’s easy to lose things amid the mess. This simple guide will help you reduce clutter and get you organized fast.

Making your bed will help your dorm look and feel much larger than it is. With pillows and blankets thrown about, the size of the room starts to feel smaller. A neat bed can not only be used as a resting area, but also as a couch or study space. Just take 5 minutes of your time each morning to make your bed and you will increase living space.

Create a filing system for all of your paperwork. Cluttered paper is always a nuisance and college students usually have the most of it between schoolwork, receipts, notices, and other documents. If you can, use your computer to save your documents on. Computers can hold just as much as your full blown filing cabinet and are a fraction of the size.

Wash your dishes. Even if you do eat out a lot, still make sure that whatever dishes you do use are clean and put away in an organized fashion. If you’re cooking a large meal, clean dishes while the meal is cooking so you don’t have to clean so much after you’re full and tired.

Wipe down all of your appliances and pick up any garbage on the way. If you’re clearing out your refrigerator, wipe down any spills that may cause mold to grow. The hassle will be less now than later if your refrigerator turns into a mold house.

Dust everything carefully. Dust likes to collect on electronics specifically, so make sure you wipe those things down extra carefully. Your dorm will also appear fresher and cleaner if it is dusted regularly. Mopping, sweeping, and vacuuming also help too. Shake rugs outside so you can relieve them of any dirt that may have collected upon them.

Organize your desk if you have one. If you have a lot of electronic devices on or near the desk, try to organize the wires as best as possible in case you are in need of repair or plan on moving them.

Clean bathrooms. Toilets and sinks must be disinfected regularly. Always be on the lookout for any signs of premature mold. Scrape it off and clean the area where it was growing.

Make sure the trash is dumped when it started to overflow. The rotten stench is never a pleasing thing to be around obviously.

These things seem like common sense when reading them, but often escape our minds once we’re living on our own.

When decorating the interior of your house to fit a western design, you’re going to have to remember that natural, woody types of materials add to the feel of the room you’re decorating. You simply can’t decorate a room with intentions of making it have a western feel without using rock, wood, metal, or leather. Wool, birch bark, bead work, and antlers will also come in handy.
As far as furniture goes, choose pieces that are made of oak or pine, but don’t overdo detail. Simple engravings add a nice touch as well.
When adding engravings, keep western motifs in your head. Anything cowboy, bear, dear, grass, etc related can really serve the interior design well.
Honey colored wood, gray rock, and black metals will help illuminate the feel you’re going for. Throwing in a little brick red, terra cotta, and forest green also help. If you have hard wood floors for example, lay down a wool rug and some wooden furniture for a nice, cozy family room. Or if you have a grayish type of tile for your flooring, you can add some wooden fixtures.

th
Don’t forget that vintage items also blend well with a western type of scenery. Cracked leather and old Indian materials are just some examples.
When looking for paintings and sculptures, go for stuff relating to ranches, horses, horse shoes, buffalo hide, bandanas, cowboy hats and boots, etc. Creativity is what counts with all these choices you have to make.
If there’s one thing you MUST include when designing your interior to fit a western theme, it’s a fireplace. No design is complete without a master fireplace with a mantle and engravings. You can go with a traditional fireplace, which burns real wood, or, you can simply purchase a remote controlled one that has the exact same effect. Engraving a scene with cowboys and Indians will bring back the old western style as well.

You should think about remodeling your bathroom so it resembles a garden theme if you want to create a more peaceful type of oasis. The neglected space in your bathroom can be filled with a theme. In this article, we will focus specifically on garden style themes.

Depending on the severity of your bathroom remodeling, the project could take only a few hours, or up to a few days. Some individuals choose to remodel the entire bathroom, appliances and all; while others prefer to only accessorize. Keep in mind that accessories go a long way and can really boost your room’s atmosphere.

A bathroom with a garden theme requires several specific colors. Since the theme revolves around flowers, appropriate choices include green, red, yellow, and pink. The decorating process includes many simple options. You can either start by choosing your base color and then purchasing corresponding accessories or the exact opposite. Any way is perfectly fine. When choosing a color, keep in mind that you want the theme to resemble a relaxed environment. Simple borders are an inexpensive, yet great way to do this.

After the walls are painted the color you desire, you can then add some accessories. There are many design options since garden themes are very popular. You can get bath ensembles inexpensively which include a soap dish, tissue holder, and lotion holder. You can also purchase garden theme accessories in solid colors.

Some other choices include a shower curtain, waste basket, towel set, and wall decorations. Bath sets are very convenient and can skyrocket the results of the colors in the room. They also harmonize the bathroom. Also remember to place a plant either somewhere on the vanity or alongside the tub. Photographs and scented candles are also creative touches. If you don’t like these ideas, at least fill the spaces with images of outdoor plants, butterflies, or even – you guessed it, a garden.
